Folic Acid

Folic acid is effective in the prevention of neural tube defects (such as Spina Bifida, meningocele, anencephaly) in the fetus during pregnancy for women planning a pregnancy and known to be at risk.

Folic acid is indicated for the treatment of folate-deficient megaloblastic anemia caused by malnutrition, malabsorption (coeliac disease and sprue) and alcoholism.

This medicine can be used for the prophylaxis of drug-induced folate deficiency e.g. caused by methotrexate, phenytoin, primidone, barbiturates, nitrofurantoin or sulfasalazine.
