Loperamide is a medication that is used for the relief of acute diarrhea and the management of chronic diarrhea in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (Chron’s disease and ulcerative colitis). Loperamide is also used to reduce the amount of discharge in patients who have undergone an ileostomy. Loperamide treats only the symptoms, not the cause of diarrhea (e.g. infection). Presented as ODT (oral dispersible tablet) it has a faster onset of effects.
